Only Elephants Wear Ivory Best Campaign Video with Master Chang
USAID, Thailand’s Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) and WildAid launched the “Only Elephants Wear Ivory Best” campaign in September 2022 to reduce the use and purchase of jewelry and accessories made from elephant ivory among women. The campaign features Cindy Sirinya Bishop, a Thai actress and supermodel, and Master Tossaporn Sritula (Master Chang), a renowned Thai astrology and feng shui expert, as wildlife demand reduction champions.
This campaign builds upon USAID Wildlife Asia’s “Beautiful without Ivory” 2020 campaign that successfully reached those desiring to buy or use ivory jewelry because of its perceived beauty. Survey results showed the “Beautiful without Ivory” campaign decreased the demand and social acceptability of ivory consumption among prospective Thai consumers by half. In addition to addressing the perceived beauty of ivory among the target demographic, the campaign also aims to counter another key driver of the consumption of ivory products in Thailand – the belief that these products bring luck leading to a good life and happiness.
